Freymond, Nash Add Postseason All-America Accolades

Western Colorado's offensive and defensive leaders grew their lengthening postseason lists of accolades with Wednesday's announcements of the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the Associated Press Division II All-America football teams.

Junior defensive end Ricky Freymond was voted the D2CCA 2024 Defensive Player of the Year and both a D2CCA and AP DII first-team All-America selection.

Junior quarterback Drew Nash earned a second-team offense honor as an All-Purpose Player on the AP DII All-America squad.

Freymond earlier on Wednesday had been named a first-team American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) defensive lineman. His three All-American awards follow defensive players of the year in D2CCA Super Region 4 and in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), distinctions that also included first-team defensive honors.

Nash was the D2CCA Super Region 4 second-team quarterback and first-team All-RMAC quarterback.

Among DII defensive players, Freymond's 24.5 tackles for loss led the country this fall, and his 12.0 sacks were the most in the RMAC and tied for second most nationally. His sack numbers this season elevated his career total to 24.5, which takes over the top spot on the program's career sacks list.

Nash was the passing yardage (2,676) and passing touchdowns (25) leader in the RMAC while also adding 608 net rushing yards, 10th in the conference, and 8 rushing touchdowns.

He was responsible for 198 points during the year, 13th most amongst NCAA DII players, and generated 3,245 yards of total offense, a total that was 14th nationally and ranks second for a single season in Western Colorado football history.

Freymond and Nash both were voted 2024 First-Team Academic All-RMAC selections.

Western earned its third NCAA DII playoff berth in four years this season, finishing with an 11-2 record – the first 11-win season in program history. The Mountaineers won a home, first-round playoff game before dropping a one-point decision to visiting Bemidji State (Minn.) in the second round.
