GREENWOOD, Ind. Six Western Colorado soccer players have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) NCAA Division II Academic All-District Team, as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.
The CSC all-district teams recognize the top student-athletes for their combined performances in the classroom and on the court. The CSC Academic All-America program recognizes honorees in four separate divisions – NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA.
Nominees, submitted by institution's athletic communicators/sports information directors, must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 and be at least a sophomore athletically and academically. Each nominee must have been an on-field contributor and in soccer, must have competed in 90 percent of the team's matches or started in 66 percent of the matches on the schedule.
The Mountaineers placed the maximum number of nominees, six, on the D-II All-District squad, led by Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First-Team All-Academic honoree, junior midfielder
Natsuki Murakami.
Joining Murakami on the CSC All-District list are teammates
Taylor Bottoms (Jr., MF),
Bridget Feely (Sr., D),
Ellie Kubena (Jr., D),
Karly Morkunas (Jr., D) and
Abby Raio (5th, F), each of whom were also on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll.
The academic all-district honors are the first for each of the six Mountaineer student-athletes.
Murakami was also voted by the league's coaches to the All-RMAC Second Team, with Bottoms earning inclusion on the Honorable Mention team.
