Colo. The Western Colorado volleyball team hosted and defeated the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs for a Breast Cancer Awareness game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions took a 5-1 lead over the Mountaineers. Kills by juniors Pelin Aksoy and Olive Rolseth and attack errors from UCCS saw a tie score at 7-a-piece. UCCS won the tie, elevating their score 10-7. Another kill from Rolseth, assisted by senior Nur Turkmenoglu, made it a two-point game 10-8. Western snuck in a few points but Colorado Springs leaped out to a 17-11 advantage. WCU stayed disciplined on both sides of the ball, coming back 21-19. UCCS had the upper hand taking set one 25-20.
- UCCS, once again, earned the first point of the set but WCU quickly took over 4-2. The battle continued, the respective teams trading points finally seeing a tie at 7-7. WCU won the draw then stayed in the lead, moving to an 18-10 advantage. UCCS added to their score, but Western's offense was too powerful, allowing them to take set two 25-17.
- Three times a charm, UCCS took the first lead 3-0. The Mountaineers quickly answered, going on a four-point run, grabbing the lead 4-3. A few ties but WCU won them all advancing their score 12-9. UCCS kept it close, but WCU maintained their lead hitting kill after kill. The Mountaineers were victorious in set three 25-16.
- Another neck and neck battle, this time senior Seyun Park hit the first kill of the set 1-0. UCCS struck back, taking the lead 5-3. WCU tied it at 5-5 but the Mountain Lions won the draw, advancing to 9-5. The Mountaineers fought back to make it a 14-14 game. This time WCU won out and took an 18-14 lead. UCCS went on a four-point run to make things interesting. The two teams battled, matching each other's points but WCU held on and took set three 26-24 and the match 3-1.
NET NOTES
- Turkmenoglu earned her 1,500 WCU assists in the first set. She finished with 46 assists, 16 digs, four kills, an ace and a block.
- Park led the team with 19 kills followed by Rolseth and Aksoy both with 10. Sophomore Kyra Kidd contributed 8 kills, 2 blocks and 3 block assists.
- Sophomore Chinaru Inoue paved the way on defense with 24 digs.
