PUEBLO, Colo. A pair of records fell on Saturday, as Western Colorado swimming & diving finished the two-day pairing of double-duals with a second consecutive sweep, defeating host CSU Pueblo 178-94, and Nebraska-Kearney by a score of 210-68.
After sweeping both teams Friday at the Mountaineers' home pool, Saturday's sweep was hosted by the ThunderWolves at CSUP's Sam Jones Aquatic Center, where Western's 400-yard medley relay quartet of
Riley Taylor,
Ella Fries,
Joanna Swiderska and
Makenna Lambert shattered the pool record (4:05.49) in the day's opening event with a time of 4 minutes, 0.06 seconds.
There was another record-setting performance midway through the meet as
Chloe Brown broke Western's 3-meter, six dives record with a first-place score of 254.50 points, breaking a record (233.25) set by Sarah Mortenson in November 2021.
Teammate
Alexandra Wallis scored 224.95 to take second place behind Brown, and fourth-place
Ashlynn Mixon set a personal record with a score of 159.35.
Taylor and Swiderska continued their hot starts to the duo's collegiate careers, each winning two individual events.
Taylor posted a winning time of 1:00.14 in the 100 backstroke early in the meet, then later added another first-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:12.73).
Swiderska won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:15.14, then came back three events later to capture the 100 free in 55.70 seconds.
Lambert stretched from the 50 free to the 500 free in her individual events Saturday, winning the 50 in 25.48 and placing second in the 500 (5:28.07).
Other first-place finishers included
Morgan Nielsen in the 1,650 free (18:37.90),
Zoe Wolfe in the 100 butterfly (1:03.38), and with a sweep of the relays for the second straight day, the 400 free relay foursome of
Madi Zach, Nielsen, Swiderska and Lambert (3:43.48).
Western swept the medal stand -- 1st, 2nd and 3rd -- in the first and last individual events in the meet schedule. Following Nielsen in the 1,650 were
Sidney-Ann Morris (19:16.19) and
Sophia Del Rosario (19:17.76), while Wolfe was followed closely by
Ella Fries (1:03.64) and
Demi Blaylock (1:04.29) in the 100 butterfly.
Leah Wagner and
Trinity Caudle switched their order in the two breaststroke races as Wagner (2:29.87) was second in the 200, ahead of Caudle's fourth-place 2:33.18, but in the 100 it was Caudle (1:09.24) in second and Wagner (1:10.33) taking third place.
