HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ

It took the Mountaineers three minutes to get rolling in their second match up with the Orediggers this season, but Rachel Cockman got her team on the board and scored the Mountaineers first eight points. Brooklyn Seymour tied the game at 15 with a fastbreak layup with a minute left in the quarter. Quincey Baum then went to the free-throw line for the Orediggers and put Mines back on top. Seymour then tied it up once again with another jumper from inside the paint. Schmidt then grabbed a defensive rebound and made her way down the court with seconds left and got it off in time to give the Mountaineers their first lead of the night. Â

The Orediggers then scored the next five points to open the second quarter, but Schmidt put a stop to Mines' small run to open the quarter with a jump shot that put her team within one. Â

Western Colorado put up a battle throughout the second as the Orediggers' lead did not get larger than eight points. The Mountaineers made 36% of their shots from the field in the second quarter. The Orediggers outscored the Mountaineers 20-12 in the third quarter and expanded their lead built in the second quarter. Cockman registered seven out of her game-high 28 points in the third. Â

The fourth quarter saw the Mountaineers' best offense of the game as they outscored Mines 25-20 and were 11-for-15 from the field. Seymour and Cockman went back-to-back to start off the final 10 minutes of the game. Then Cockman was able to draw a foul to send her to the free-throw line and try to get her team back within 10. Â

The Mountaineers were able to close the gap to within eight as they fell to Mines 76-68. Â
COURT NOTESÂ

Rachel Cockman registered a game high 28-points which included going 10-for-22 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line. Jayda Maves also scored in double figures with 12 points. Â

Defensively, Cockman led the Mountaineers with seven rebounds and two blocks, while Natalie Jojola had six rebounds. Brooklyn Seymour registered a game-high three steals. Â
