Mountaineers battle but fall to Orediggers

GOLDEN, Colo. The Mountaineers and Orediggers went back and forth in a game that saw nine lead changes and was tied six times. The Orediggers found momentum in the second half that carried them to a 77-72 win over Western Colorado.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Mountaineers got on the board first when Andrew Reichart made a free throw one minute and 15 seconds into the game. Majok Deng responded for the Orediggers with a free throw of his own. Colorado School of Mines went on a 7-0 run in the middle of the half expanding their lead to 10-4. Kade Juelfs then pulled his team within three with a 3-point shot.
  • With six minutes left in the first half the Mountaineers found their momentum as a pair of free throws from Tyler Halligan to give them a two-point lead. Halligan then found a pass from Amar Rivers for two more points. The Mountaineers recorded a strong 31-30 lead going into the half.
  • Colorado School of Mines started the second half tying the game on a free throw from Deng. Amar Rivers then drained a jumper in the back-and-forth contest.
  • The Mountaineers did not score for five minutes while the Orediggers went on a 10-point run giving them a 13-point lead. The Orediggers outscored the Mountaineers 47-41 in the second half on the way to give them their 14th straight win.

COURT NOTES 
Amar Rivers led the Mountaineers with 17 points, while Kade Juelfs and Tyler Halligan also scored in double figures for the Mountaineers. Rivers also led the Mountaineers defensively with nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals.

UP NEXT
Western Colorado will finish out its road trip against MSU Denver tomorrow night with a tip off set for 6 p.m.
