HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Kade Juelfs got the Mountaineers on the board first with a 3-point shot that gave his team an advantage early on, as they held onto the lead for the first five minutes of the game. The Mountaineers had a strong offensive showing in the first half shooting 48% from the field.
-
The Yellow Jackets took an 8-7 lead off a jumper from Joel Speckman and would not look back. Western Colorado did not give the Yellow Jackets lots of breathing room as their largest lead of the half was eight points multiple times in the first half. Western Colorado was down just 2 at half time and looked to stay locked in headed toward the final 20-minutes of the game.
-
The trend of staying close behind against the Yellow Jackets continued into the second half as Black Hills State came out swinging as Caelin Hearne and Matthew Ragsdale strong with back-to-back shots inside of the paint. The Mountaineers could not slow the RMACs leading scorer down as Ragsdale led his team in the second half with 19 points in the final 20 minutes. He would finish the game with 26 points.
-
Western Colorado battled to the very end but back-to-back-to-back trips to the charity stripe for the Yellow Jackets allowed them to pull ahead to a 69-65 lead.
