GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado Rocket League Crimson dominated their four-team group stage at nationals – being led by Senior
Shawn Glade who went into back to back games last Friday and Saturday evening against Coe College and George Fox University.
The team consisting of
Shawn Glade, Ross McNally,
Braedon Gould, and Ben Ford went on to beat Coe College 3-2 ending the series in five games. They then proceeded to beat George Fox in three clean sweeping the team 3-0.
Captain
Shawn Glade throughout the playoffs and Nationals was an offensive powerhouse making 26 goals, 15 assists and 81 shots on goal.
Ross Mcnally was the all-around best player scoring 24 goals, 14 assists, 28 saves, and 83 shots on goal.
Braedon Gould, who was primarily the fourth man, stepped up near the end of the season becoming a powerhouse combo with Shawn, putting up 11 assists (ten of which were to Shawn), and 12 goals.
Benjamin Ford was not able to play in the group stage of nationals but during playoffs proved to be a menace when it came to solo plays scoring seven out of nine goal solo and putting up 10 shots on goal.
This team has had its ups and downs the past couple season but finally started clicking this season becoming the second team to win their division in playoffs, the other being League of Legends in Fall 2021, and only the seventh team to ever make it to the finals in their division, the others being League of Legends in Fall of 2021, Rainbow Six Siege in Fall of 2021 & 2022 and Spring of 2021, and the last being Overwatch Slate in Fall of 2021 and Spring of 2022.
Though this is Shawn's last year playing for Western, there is already talk of him helping coach the Rocket League teams for next year. The Crimson squad will go on to the bracket stage of nationals which will begin June 15th as they take on Grays Harbor College's Blue squad.
Best of Luck to our Mountaineers and congrats to
Shawn Glade for graduating and leading this team to the national's bracket in his last season as captain.
