Meredith Clabaugh and
Alexandra Wallis are primed for national debuts in their first collegiate years, participating Tuesday, March 7 in the diving qualification meet of the NCAA 2023 Division II Swimming and Diving Championship Meet at the Indiana University Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI) Natatorium.
The pair earned spots in the qualification meet, infamously known as Black Tuesday, after surpassing the 1-meter qualification standard scores (255.00 for 6-dive optionals and 390.00 for 11-dive events) together with an optional dive list degree of difficulty of at least 13.0.
Scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Mountain Standard Time on Tuesday, the Mountaineer duo along with 39 other qualifiers on the 1-meter board will run through their 6-dive optional lists, with the top 22 divers officially advancing into the NCAA championship.
The championship 1-meter competition starts at 12 p.m. MT Wednesday, with the 22 divers bounding through 6 optional and 5 required dives. Only the top eight from that preliminary session will move on to compete – once more with the 6 optionals – during the finals session at night.
Both Clabaugh and Wallis broke the school record for 1m, 6 dives this season. Clabaugh broke the record first, with a score of 247.05 at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship meet. One week later it was Wallis with a score of 277.75 at the Colorado Mesa Last Chance Qualifying Meet.
