Cheer 4th at Nationals, Top D2 School

ANAHEIM, Calif.  Western Colorado's cheer team earned a fourth-place finish at the 2023 USA Spirit Nationals, competing in the 4 Year College Small Co-Ed Show Cheer category.

The Mountaineers scored 91.7 points, trailing only Division I entries from winner San Jose State University (96.6), runner-up Fresno State (94.4), and third place Portland (Ore.) State (93.0).

Contested over two days at the Anaheim Convention Center, Western concluded the weekend ahead of D-I UC San Diego as well as Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams from Colorado Mesa and Colorado State Pueblo.

The Mountaineers posted a raw score of 93.2 in the finals, with just 1.5 deduction points to earn their final score.

Fresno State was the 2022 champion with Portland State coming in second and Western finishing third.

In two years of competing at nationals, head coach Stacy Fuller has led the Western squad to finishes that represent the top D-II team at both competitions.
