HOW IT HAPPENED

After going back and forth the first few minutes of the first half the Mountaineers had a 36-26 lead going into halftime behind 42-percent shooting from the field in the half.

Tyler Halligan went on a six-point run of his own in the middle of half, which included a three-pointer that shifted the momentum the Mountaineers way. Xavier Harris had three of Western Colorado's seven steals in the first 20 minutes while 13 of the Mountaineers points came off turnovers.

The Cougars did not back down in the first half as they went 9-for-24 from the field, while most of their points came from the free throw line (5-for-11). This was the first game all season that the Cougars did not score 30 plus points in the first half of the game.

Colorado Christian's shortened the Mountaineers lead to four with 11 minutes and 56 seconds left in the game. After Tyler Halligan went 1-for-2 from the free throw line, Schafer Reichart pulled his squad within two with a three-pointer. Nick Zeil registered a three-pointer of his own to give the Cougars their first lead of the half. The Cougars out score the Mountaineers 23-10 in the first 13 minutes of the second half.

The Cougars went on an 18-3 run and had a six points lead, before the Mountaineers climbed within four. The Mountaineers tried to regain momentum within the final minutes, but the Cougars tacked on extra points within the final two minutes to secure the comeback win.

Kade Juelfs led the Mountaineers with 14 points, while Avery Rembao collected 10 points on the night. The Mountaineers shot 42-percent from the field in the first half while making just 35% of their shots in the final 20 minutes of the game.

As a team the Mountaineers had 11 steals with Juelfs recording three and Harris recording four. Jamel Hollins led the squad with five rebounds while collecting eight points.
