GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado's five-point lead to start the game did not quiet down the Skyhawks' fast paced offense as Fort Lewis took the 85-55 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mountaineers got on the board first with a good three by Avery Rembao but the Skyhawks responded with a two-point shot of their own. Kade Juelfs found the net for another three before Rembao allowed his squad to go ahead by five with another shot from beyond the arch. After Jhei-R Jones shrunk the lead to three for the Skyhawks, a dunk by Trevin Lieck opened the Mountaineers lead back to five.

The Skyhawks took the lead with a three-point shot from Tristan Hurdle to make it a 13-11 game. The Skyhawks then went on 16-point run until Lieck drew a shooting from Brayden Carter. After Lieck made his second attempt at the line, it was Xavier Harris' turn at the free-throw line after drawing a foul from Obi Agbim. This shortened the Skyhawks lead to 13 with eight minutes left to play in the first half.

Western Colorado went into halftime down 46-30 even though they shot 43% from the field and 58 % from beyond the arch. In the first half Fort Lewis made 50% of their shots from the field, going 18-for-36.

Jaelan McCloud started the second half with a three pointer, but the Skyhawks took strong possession of the ball and went on another large scoring run the led them to a win.

Amar Rivers led Western Colorado with nine points off the bench. As a unit, the Mountaineers bench registered 30 points. Xavier Harris also came off the bench but with seven points, while starters Rembao, Juelfs and McCloud all scored six points each. Brayden Carter recorded 16 points and six rebounds for Fort Lewis.

Lieck, Rembao and Jamel Hollins all collected five rebounds throughout the night. For the Skyhawks, Malik Whitaker registered eight total fouls with four offensive and four defensive boards.

The Mountaineers went 41-percent from the field in the 40-minute contest while the Skyhawks made 51-percent of their shots from the field.
