LOGAN, Utah Western Colorado defeated NCAA Division I opponent Utah State University in a thriller Monday (December 18th) night. Jayda Maves led the Mountaineers to an exhibition game victory with a 3-pointer to give them the lead with four seconds left on the clock.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Going into the final minute the Mountaineers were down by four points then Rachel Cockman made a three pointer with an assist from Maves to pull Western Colorado within one.

A defensive rebound by Cockman got the Mountaineers the ball with 17 seconds left. Maves eventually got the ball from Ivey Schmidt and made the winning 3-point shot.

The Aggies came out strong in the third quarter outscoring the Mountaineers 19-13, which closed the Mountaineers lead to just two points.

Western Colorado outscored the Aggies in the first half 26-18, while shooting 35-percent from the field in the first quarter. The Mountaineers limited USU to just 8 points in the second quarter.

Cockman recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Schmidt had 11 points, while Maves recorded 8 points.

The Mountaineers went 17-for-55 (30%) from the field in the 40-minute contest while the Aggies shot just 27% from the field.
