GUNNISON, Colo. Mountaineer swimming and diving will host Colorado State University Pueblo in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual meet Saturday, when Western will honor its five seniors in a pre-meet ceremony on Senior Recognition day.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE MEET
- Western enters the meet with a 3-0 record in duals with wins over Adams State, CSU Pueblo, and Nebraska-Kearney.
- Most recently the Mountaineers returned from the three-day Oklahoma Christian (Univ.) Eagle Invite, at which Western placed second out of eight teams in attendance.
- The Invite was also the site of two new school records as Morgan Nielsen put her name up on the Mountaineer record board twice. She opened the Invite on Day 1 with a record-breaking time of 10 minutes, 34.79 seconds in the 1,000-yard freestyle, and later opened the final session of the invite with a Western record time of 17:46.61 in the 1,650 free.
- Nielsen's 1,000 time ranks 10th on the RMAC's top-16 performance list, and her 1,650 time is 7th.
- Teammates who also have top-16 RMAC times include Makenna Lambert (50 free, 100 free, 200 free); AvaMarie Hopewell (1,000 free); Sidney-Ann Morris (1,650 free); Leah Wagner (100 and 200 breaststroke); Trinity Caudle (100 breaststroke); and LynDea Turner (400 individual medley).
CSU PUEBLO HEADING INTO THE MEET
- The ThunderWolves are 2-6 in dual meets, with their wins coming over Adams State and Nebraska-Kearney.
- Pueblo more recently placed second of four teams at the early-November Nebraska-Kearney Invitational and fifth of seven at the TYR/Colorado Mesa Invitational.
- Like Western, the ThunderWolves have several swimmers ranked in the RMAC top-16. Pueblo is led by Paola C Wu who ranks fourth in the 200 butterfly and sixth in the 400 IM.
RELAY BATTLES
- The RMAC performance list shows Western and Pueblo back to back in four of five relay events.
- Western's time of 3:36.97 in the 400 free relay is 1.8 seconds ahead of the ThunderWolves' best season time.
- Pueblo is one spot ahead of the Mountaineers in three other relays, edging Western by 0.4 seconds in the 200 free relay, 1.8 seconds in the 200 medley relay, and by 2.5 seconds in the 400 medley relay.
