FB closes Regular Season with Win on the Road

ALAMOSA, Colo.  For the third straight season the Mountaineers claim the Colorado Classic trophy, this time with a 45-24 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Going into the half, the Mountaineers had a 28-7 lead that included three touchdowns on the ground from Deyvon Butler and a 23-yard pass from Drew Nash to Andrew Montez with 23 seconds left on the clock.  

  • The Grizzlies found momentum after the half, scoring twice within the third quarter and cutting the lead to a one possession game with another touchdown one minute into the fourth.  

  • Deyvon Butler responded with his final touchdown of the day in the fourth, putting Adams' momentum to a halt. The Grizzlies then fumbled at their own 30-yard line putting the Mountaineers in even better control.  

 FIELD NOTES 

  • After his four rushing touchdowns today, Deyvon Butler is currently tied in second with Josh Cummings with 17 rushing touchdowns in a single season in program history. Cummings registered 17 touchdowns in 2021.  

  • Butler's 169 rushing yards today pushed him across the 1,000 total rushing yards on the season as he now has 1,001-yards.  

  • Drew Nash registered 144 passing yards including one touchdown pass and his longest pass of the day being 39 yards.  

  • Andrew Montez, Sage Yazzie and Drew Parsek each recorded three receptions for a combined total of 143-yards.  

  • Defensively, Wyatt Buhr had eight tackles with one tackle for loss and one sack. Cy Shope, Andrew Arterburn, Dylan Cardenas, Stevie Byron and Jace Perez all recorded tackles for loss.
