GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado saw their season come to an end with an overtime 16-13 loss to Central Washington in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs. The Mountaineers had a historic season seeing a No. 9 ranking in the national poll and starting the season 8-0 something that has not been done since 1978.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mountaineers elected to start on offense to begin the overtime which resulted in Adam Tasei kicking a 41-yard field goal to put his team ahead 13-10 with the Wildcats to still get their first possession of overtime.

Central Washington only needed two plays as Kennedy McGill was able to find Darius Morrison in the end zone to complete the 30-yard touchdown pass allowing the Wildcats to advance in the postseason.

It was a low scoring afair from the beginning as Central Washington held Western to only a field goal going into half time. The Mountaineers lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter with 5:47 left on the clock and down four after a CWU touchdown. Cameron Colangelo caught a 19-yard pass from Drew Nash that concluded an eight play, 90-yards drive.

Drew Nash registered 220 passing yards while throwing one touchdown and one interception with 38-rushing yards.

Deyvon Butler was limited on the ground as the Wildcats held him to 29 rushing yards with his longest run being a 13-yard rush.

Cameron Colangelo was Nash's main target with four receptions for 92 yards. Daniel Parsek had three receptions for 35 yards.

Defensively, Ethan Sanchez-Maxwell and Kendall Lightfoot recorded eight tackles each. Sanchez-Maxwell, Lightfoot, Wyatt Buhr, Dylan Cardenas, Cy Shope, Ricky Freymond and Ernesto Lopez all had tackles for loss. Buhr also recorded a sack while Lightfoot had an interception for nine yards.

Kennedy McGill had 277 passing yards for the Wildcats with Darius Morrison being his main target with nine receptions for 118 yards. Cameron Daniels had 81 rushing yards with an average of 4.3 yards a carry. Brett McCalla had 10 total tackles for his squad.
