WACO, Texas Western Colorado sits currently at No. 15 in Monday's (Oct. 30) release of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) NCAA Division II Top 25. The Mountaineers recorded their first loss of the season to Colorado School of Mines on Saturday for an 8-1 overall record.
The AFCA polls show the Mountaineers with 321 points and dropping six spots from No. 9 to No. 15 after a 42-7 loss to Colorado School of Mines on Saturday.
The NCAA released the first regional rankings of the 2023 football season. Western Colorado is currently ranked No. 2 in Super Region Four behind the Orediggers. The first seed in each region will get a bye in the first week of playoffs, with the second through fourth seeds hosting the fifth, sixth and seventh seeds, respectively.
For the third consecutive week, Colorado School of Mines is ranked No. 1 (720 points, 26 first-place votes) and is the only other Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference program in the AFCA Top 25. Colorado State University Pueblo is receiving votes for the second straight week.
Western Colorado will play at Katy O. Rady for the final time in the regular season as the Mountaineers are set to host Fort Lewis College on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.
