PUEBLO, Colo. The Western Colorado women's swimming and diving team swept the Colorado State University Pueblo Tri-Meet with dominating wins over the host ThunderWolves as well as the third team competing in the double-dual, University of Nebraska Kearney.
The Mountaineers earned a 291-127 win over Pueblo and a 341.5-84.5 victory over Kearney in the Friday and Saturday event at the Sam Jones Aquatic Center.
Of the 19 individual events, a swimmer or diver from Western won 13 of them. And of the four relays contested at the meet, a Mountaineer quartet won three of them, including setting a pool record in the 400-yard medley relay.
That foursome of
LynDea Turner,
Leah Wagner,
Sage Patterson and
Makenna Lambert set the record with a winning time of 4 minutes, 5.49 seconds. The same four had previously teamed up to capture the opening event of the two-day competition, the 200 medley relay (1:52.31).
Several Mountaineers were multiple-event winners over the two days, led by
Morgan Nielsen's three first-place finishes in the distance events.
Nielsen raced away from the field in the 1,650 freestyle, taking the first individual event of the meet Friday with a time of 18:41.81. On Saturday morning she again hit the pad first, taking the 1,000 free (11:13.24) before claiming Saturday's 500 free with a time of 5:28.71.
Lambert added individual victories in the 100 free (54.33 seconds) and the 50 free (25.58) on Friday, and added a second place in Saturday's 200 free (2:01.41).
Patterson earned a trio of first-place finishes, winning the 100 butterfly (1:00.02), the 200 butterfly (2:19.10), and Saturday's 50 free (26.05). She was also third in Friday's 500 free (5:38.32).
Misha Little touched first in the 100 individual medley (1:03.46) and the 200 free (2:01.27), and added a second place in the 100 free (54.50).
Picking up one first place each were Turner in the 200 backstroke (2:11.73),
AvaMarie Hopewell in the 500 free (5:29.01), and
Alexandra Wallis on the 3-meter diving board with a total of 348.65 points.
Sophia Del Rosario and
Leah Wagner added multiple second-place finishes at the meet. del Rosario was second to a Western teammate in the 1,650 free and the 1,000 free, and added a second place in the 400 IM. Wagner was second in the 200 back and 200 breaststroke.
Freshman diver
Ashlynn Mixon was second on the 3m board and third in the 1m event.

The Mountaineers will participate in the Oklahoma Christian (University) Eagle Invite on November 10-12 in Edmond, Okla., at the Edmond YMCA Recreation & Aquatic Center.
