Mountaineers improve to 8-0 on the season

GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado defeated New Mexico Highlands 62-0 on gorgeous Saturday afternoon in Gunnison, Colo. The squad improves to 8-0 on the season, Western Colorado football has not started a season 8-0 since the 1978 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Western Colorado offense dominated again this season, putting up 35 points in the first half. Sage Yazzie and Daniel Parsek both had touchdowns in the first quarter, while Elias Zarate, Braeden Hogan and Deyvon Butler all recorded touchdowns in the second quarter. In the first half, the Cowboys only collected 83-yards of total offense, while the Mountaineers collected 294 tards of total offense.  

  • Western Colorado's offense scored five more times in the second half, including two field goals from Adam Tasei

  • The defense came up with crucial plays all game recording four sacks and one interception.

The Mountaineers will now head to Golden, Colo., to face the No. 1 team in the country Colorado School of Mines. Kickoff will be at noon at Alumni Field at Marv Kay Stadium.
