PUEBLO, Colo. Western Colorado swimming & diving is back in action, participating in the Colorado State University Pueblo Tri-Meet on Friday and Saturday with the host ThunderWolves and the Lopers from University of Nebraska Kearney.
Meet scoring will be in a double-dual, timed final format with entrants from the three teams seeded together in each event and then separated out into a trio of dual-meet results.
The two-day meet begins Friday at 6 p.m. with an event schedule of 11 swimming events and the 11-dive 1-meter event. Saturday begins at 9 a.m. with the 11-dive 3m event before proceeding with the remaining 10 swim events.
Western is coming off a dominating victory two weekends prior at the inaugural Dan France Continental Divide Cup.
The Mountaineers swept every event in claiming the Cup title, picking up a Paul Wright Natatorium pool record in the 1,650-yard freestyle by freshman
Morgan Nielsen along with sophomore diver
Alexandra Wallis sweeping the 1m 11-dive and 6-dive optionals events, surpassing the NCAA Division II Qualifying Meet standard in the 11-dive event.
Earning multiple event wins during the two-day Cup were
LynDea Turner (100 and 200 backstroke, 400 individual medley),
Misha Little (200 freestyle, 100 and 200 IM),
Makenna Lambert (50and 100 free),
Sage Patterson (50, 100 and 200 butterfly) and
Leah Wagner (50, 100 and 200 breaststroke).
Afton Page added a win in the 50 backstroke event.
Host CSU Pueblo opened its season in late September at the Colorado Mesa Intermountain Shootout, dropping dual-meet results against the University of Utah, the U.S. Air Force Academy, Brigham Young University, and the host Mavericks.
The ThunderWolves next hosted a Triangular with Adams State and the Colorado School of Mines, defeating Adams State but losing to 22nd-ranked Mines.
Kearney opened its season with a third-place finish at the Sam Freas Invitational hosted by Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference associate member Oklahoma Christian University, finishing ahead of another RMAC associate member, sixth-place University of Texas Permian Basin.
