COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Western Colorado earned seven top-eight finishes Friday night in the opening session of the three-day Colorado College Classic at the Tigers' Schlessman Natatorium.
The 3-meter diving event kicked off the Classic, and all three of Western's divers placed in the top eight, led by
Alexandra Wallis' fourth-place finish. Wallis accumulated 347.95 points from her 11-dive list, less than seven points away from the third place finisher.
Teammates
Meredith Clabaugh and
Taylor Grebe were sixth and seventh with 319.20 and 273.20 points, respectively.
The lone swimming event of the Day 1 session was the timed final 1,650-yard freestyle, in which
AvaMarie Hopewell earned second place with a final time of 19 minutes, 0.24 seconds.
Western swept fourth, fifth and sixth place in the event with
Jordan Maruska (19:16.58) leading
Sidney-Ann Morris (19:53.15) and
Lauren Linneman (20:01.61) to the pads. Adding a ninth-place finish was
Carolyn Goodwin (21:59.38).
The second day of the Classic begins with preliminary swimming heats Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by the 1-meter diving final at 1 p.m. The evening finals session, with the top 16 swimmers from prelims returning for a championship and consolation final, is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
