GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado will attempt to pick up their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win this weekend – after nearly defeating Adams State – when they host Chadron State College (Dec. 9) and Colorado Christian University (Dec. 10).
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
- Western's two game winning streak was snapped this past weekend when they lost 71-73 to Adams State University and then lost to Fort Lewis College 67-89. Currently the Mountaineers have a 2-4 overall record, 0-2 in RMAC competition. Robel Desta was the leading score against the Grizzlies dropping 25-points. While Kade Juelfs and Avery Rembao were the leading scorers against the Skyhawks each scoring 14-points.
- Early on in the season, Desta has been the leading scorer for Western averaging 15.7-points Per Game (PG). Right behind him is Rembao who has been averaging 11-points. Additionally, Desta has the best field goal (44.2 percent) and three-point (50 percent) – min. 10 attempts – on the team. At the free throw line, Trevin Lieck has yet to miss this season having a perfect 1.000 free throw percentage.
- When it comes to grabbing rebounds, Desta leads the team with 8.3 rebounds PG. Sticking with defense Syris Williams continues to pick pockets as he now has a team high eight steals. In the paint, Gino Corridori has been a solid rim protector blocking five shots.
- As a whole, the Mountaineers average 64.5-points PG, shooting; 37.2 percent from the field, 28.8 percent from three and 75.4 percent from the free throw line. They turn the ball over 16.2 times per game and allow 18.5-points off turnovers.
EAGLES HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
- Chadron State tipped off RMAC competition on a strong note defeating, CSU Pueblo 83-71 and New Mexico Highlands 71-61. Bryce Latimer was the leading scorer against the Thunderwolves scoring 24-points. Against the Cowboys, Isaiah Wyatt and Latimer were the top scorers each scoring 18-points.
- Eight games into the season for the Eagles, Wyatt has been the top scorer averaging 17.1-points PG. Latimer and Josh Robinson also make their presence felt on offense scoring 13.8 and 10.6-points PG. Robinson is the best field goal shooter on the team making 71.7 percent and Wyatt is the best three-point shooter making 50.8 percent. At the free throw line Latimer has made a team high 82.4 percent.
- On defense, Robinson grabs the most rebounds on the team grabbing 8.5. In the steal's category, MJ Foust and Marcus Jefferson are the top players causing ball handlers issues, recording 11 and 10 steals so far this season. When it comes to sending shots back, Porter Anderson has the most blocks with three.
- As a whole Chadron State averages 78.4-points PG, shooting; 46.7 percent from the field, 40 percent from three and 74.1 percent from the free throw line. They turn the ball over 13 times PG and allow 11.1-points off turnovers.
COUGARS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
- Similar to the Mountaineers, things didn't go Colorado Christian's this past weekend when they kicked off RMAC competition – losing 62-73 to New Mexico Highlands and 55-68 to CSU Pueblo. Jason Gallant was the leading score against the Cowboys scoring 15-points. While Maro Egodotaye was the leading scorer against the Thunderwolves scoring 15-points.
- DJ McDonald is the leading scorer for the Cougars seven games into the season, averaging 12.1-points PG. Gallant is scoring in double figures pitching in with 10.4-points PG. Leading the team in field goal percentage is Egodotaye who makes 71.8 percent of his shots. From beyond the arc, Tanner Hecht is shooting a team high 54.5 percent. At the free throw line Gallant is making 85.2 percent of his shots.
- Leading the team in rebounds is Nic Zeil who averages 5.8 rebounds PG. Also making their presence felt on defense, Gallant and Noah Kon are tied for the most steals on the team with nine. In terms of blocked shots, Egodotaye and Christian Bento lead the charge each having six blocked shots.
- As a whole, Colorado Christian averages 70.1-points PG, shooting; 43.6 percent from the field, 32.3 percent from three and 71.5 percent from the free throw line. They turn the ball over 16.3 times PG and allow 16.4-points off turnovers.
