GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado will attempt to end 2022 on a positive note on Saturday (Dec. 31) when they take on University of Colorado at Colorado Springs at 4 p.m.
 
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS | RMAC STATS | RMAC STANDINGS
  • Western has had a rough start to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) competition, resulting in them currently being 0-5 and sitting in last place in the standings. In their most recent game against No. 9 Colorado School of Mines the Mountaineers lost 59-101.
  • On the offensive end, Western has the 15th ranked offense, scoring 64.8-points in RMAC contest. Avery Rembao is the main scorer for the Mountaineers scoring 16.6-points (tied for 10th in RMAC) and is followed by Robel Desta who scorers 14.6-points (14th in RMAC) in RMAC contest.
  • Desta is the best shooter since RMAC competition has started, making 38.3 percent (22nd in RMAC) from the field. He also leads the team from the free throw line knocking down 95.7 percent (2nd in RMAC) from the line. Rembao is the second-best shooter from the free throw line making 74.3 percent (17th in RMAC).
  • Defensively, Western has the 14th ranked defense, giving up 81-points in RMAC contest. On the glass, Gino Corridori leads the Mountaineers grabbing 8.2 rebounds (tied for fourth in RMAC). Not far behind Corridori, Desta grabs seven rebounds in RMAC contest which is eighth in the RMAC. When it comes to protecting the rim, Corridori once again leads the way for the Mountaineers blocking one shot (tied for fifth in RMAC) per game. Not far behind Grant Wilkinson blocks 0.8 shots, which is tied for sixth in the RMAC.

  • UCCS will try to extend their current winning streak – after beating Westminster (82-66) and Colorado Christian (92-86). At the moment the Mountain Lions are currently 3-2 in RMAC contest, putting them in fifth place.
  • Offensively, UCCS has the fourth best offense scoring 79.4-points in RMAC contest. Jon'il Fugett leads the way for the Mountain Lions on offense scoring 13.6-points in RMAC games (tied for 17th in RMAC). Fugett is also the best three-point shooter for UCCS making 41.5 percent (seventh in RMAC) and leads the team at the free throw line knocking down 75 percent (17th in RMAC) form the line.
  • The Mountain Lions on defense have the 12th ranked defense giving up 79.2-points so far in RMAC contest. On the glass, Jezza McKenzie and William Becker are the top rebounders for UCCS grabbing 7.2 (seventh in RMAC) and six (tied for 13th in RMAC) rebounds in RMAC contest.
  • Becker and McKenzie are also top in the block's category, Baker blocking one shot per game (tied for fifth in RMAC) and McKenzie sending back 0.8 shots (sixth in RMAC). In terms of steals, Fugett leads the way recording 1.6 steals (tied for eighth in RMAC). Not far behind tied for tenth in the RMAC, Beni Fungula averages 1.4 steals per game.
