GUNNISON, Colo. On a day that Western Colorado honored seniors
Carolyn Goodwin and
Addison O'Donnell, the Mountaineer swimming and diving program on Saturday gave the graduating duo reason to celebrate with a 216-62 victory over visiting Colorado State University at Paul Wright Natatorium.
The win elevates Western's record to 6-1, a win total that includes three wins over the ThunderWolves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The divers got things started with a pre-meet 11 dive session on the 1-meter board, with Alexandra Wallis taking first place, followed by teammates Meredith Clabaugh and Taylor Grebe. Wallis posted her best 11-dive score this season with a winning total of 351.15. Not far behind was Clabaugh (323.40) with Grebe, in her first season on the boards, totaling 267.10 points.
- A 1-2-3 sweep of the 200-yard medley relay began the dominant swimming portion of the meet schedule, followed by the first of three individual victories by Western's Tayla Liddle.
- Liddle won the next event, the 200 freestyle, in a time of 2 minutes, 7.05 seconds, and Makenna Lambert (2:08.49) made it a 1-2 finish for the Mountaineers.
- Four events later, Liddle would again hit the pads first, capturing the 200 butterfly (2:25.89), then added her third win in the event following another diving session, winning the 100 free (58.09).
- Another early winner was Jordan Maruska, whose time of 19:21.54 earned her a first place in the 1,650 free. Late in the meet she earned a second-place finish in the 500 free (5:46.70) then anchored the winning 200 free relay (1:44.10) that concluded the event schedule.
- Courtney Coplan added an individual first-place finish, winning the 100 backstroke (1:00.80), and a third place in the 50 free (26.67). She also led off the winning 200 medley relay (1:52.77) and was also on the winning 200 free relay with Maruska.
- Also on both winning relays was Lambert, who added a first place in the 50 free (25.94) to her second in the 200 free.
- The seniors had busy afternoons as Goodwin swam in the 50 free, 200 free and also stretched out to the 500 free, as well as swimming on the 'C' 200 free relay.
- O'Donnell swam the breaststroke leg on the winning 200 medley, won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.62), took second in the 50 (26.10), and dove in her first collegiate meet, scoring 79.87 points in the six-dive 1-meter board event.
- Clabaugh captured the event title in the six-dive event, posting her highest season score (225.07) to finish ahead of Wallis (197.55), Grebe (151.65) and O'Donnell.
- Other individual event winners on the day included Trinity Caudle in the 200 breaststroke (2:40.07), AvaMarie Hopewell in the back-to-back events of the 500 free (5:37.57) and 100 butterfly (1:04.81), and LynDea Turner in the 400 individual medley (4:53.75).
- Caudle added a second in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.53), Anna Maurello added a second in the 200 butterfly (2:30.43), Bella Gamez touched second in the 200 backstroke (2:24.26), and Sidney-Ann Morris chipped in with thirds in both the 1,650 (20:14.18) and the 400 IM (5:38.14).
LOOKING AHEAD
Western will take its winter training trip over the holiday break, destination the Florida Keys, then opens the second-semester portion of its schedule with the Colorado College Classic on January 20-22, 2022.
