DURANGO, Colo. Saturday afternoon's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference cross country championship saw the Mountaineers finish third in the men's 8-kilometer event and the Western women take fourth in their 6K race at the Hillcrest Golf Course.
Colorado School of Mines, ranked No. 1 in the country (USTFCCCA), earned the men's RMAC title with 26 points while Adams State University (No. 2 nationally) finished second with 46 points. Ninth-ranked Western was next with 91 points.
The No. 1-ranked Grizzlies from Adams State raced to the women's RMAC crown, accumulating 17 points to finish ahead of runner-up and third-ranked Colorado Mines (76 pts.). Third-place University of Colorado Colorado Springs (fourth-ranked) had 88 points with ninth-ranked Western coming in fourth with 109 points.
All five of Western's scoring runners in the men's race earned all-conference honors.
Sixth-place
Simon Kelati and 11th-place finisher
Jacob Hernandez ran to first team RMAC honors. Kelati finished with a time of 24 minutes, 57.48 seconds, with Hernandez next to cross for Western in a time of 25:10.85.
Juan Diaz (21st, 25:41.64),
Sean McCauley (27th, 25:52.99) and
Will Johnson (28th, 25:54.04) ran to second team RMAC honors.
Three Mountaineers earned all-conference honors in the women's race, led by first-team finishes by
Katie Doucette and
Allison Beasley.
Doucette was sixth overall in a time of 21:44.06 while Beasley was ninth (22:06.50).
Leah Taylor (22:40.80) finished in 24th place to earn second team all-RMAC honors.
In Western's final two scoring spots were
Gretchen Slattum (31st,23:10.00) and
Emma Kjellsen (44th, 24:00.30).
LOOKING AHEAD
Both Mountaineer teams will participate in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships in Denver, Colorado, on Saturday, November 19.
