Mountaineers fall to the Rangers in Denver

DENVER --- Western Colorado falls to Regis University in a three set match (L, 19-25, 19-25, 21-25) on Friday night, handing the Mountaineers their second conference loss of the season.

The Mountaineers started each set well, as they either held a small lead or kept it within a few, but were unable to close out any of the three sets. The Rangers averaged just over five points per set more than Western Colorado, allowing them to sweep the Mountaineers in three.

In the three set match, Alex Galicia led the Mountaineers in assists as she recorded 30 assists, mostly setting Jordyn Todd (eight kills), Jaeda Davis-Golliher (eight kills), and Kat Finnerty (seven kills).

Finnerty and Davis-Golliher also led Western Colorado in blocks as they each earned three blocks in the match. Teammates Todd and Galicia attempted to keep the Mountaineers chances alive as they led the team in digs, each with 10 digs on the night.

Todd, Galicia and Nicole Gonzales each recorded one service ace.

The Mountaineers will be back in action next week as they host Colorado Mines on Friday, Oct. 1 and Chadron State on Saturday, Oct. 2 in Paul Wright Gym.
