Mountaineers fall to Fort Lewis and Regis

GUNNISON, Colo. --- Western Colorado volleyball drops to a 3-4 record on the season after losing both matches in Saturday's doubleheader. The Mountaineers fell to the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-8), then were defeated by the #24 Rangers of Regis University 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-19, 25-13).
 
WESTERN COLORADO VERSES FORT LEWIS:

For the first match of the day, the Mountaineers played well against the Skyhawks as they nearly matched them in the major statistical categories. Western Colorado did manage to put up more blocks (10 blocks) and digs (90 digs) than Fort Lewis, but overall were close in every category.  
 
Leading the Mountaineers in two categories against the Skyhawks was sophomore Jordyn Todd who not only recorded 20 kills in the match but also lead the team in digs with 22. Many of those kills coming off a set by Hanna Hendrickson as she earned 37 assists in the match.
 
Nicole Gonzales continues to prove herself as an skilled server, as she earned another two aces in the match. She currently leads the team in aces this season with 11.
 
At the net, both Elizabeth Koch and Savanna Meyer recorded four blocks against the Skyhawks. Adding to their already impressive first season with the Mountaineers.
 
WESTERN COLORADO VERSES REGIS UNIVERSITY:

In the Mountaineers second match of the day, the Mountaineers put forth a valiant effort against the No. 24 ranked team in division two, the Regis Rangers.
 
Western Colorado was able to claim the second set of the match with a 25-17 victory, but were unable to maintain that momentum later in the match.  
 
The team did record four aces against the Rangers, two coming from Jordyn Todd with Elizabeth Rupprecht and Emily Mangone each serving one.
 
Todd again led the team in kills, putting up 22 against Regis University. Another Mountaineer recording double digits in kills, was freshman Caroline Parker who recorded 14. For the second time on the day Hanna Hendrickson recorded over 30 assists, as she recorded 35 against Regis, giving her 72 assists on the day.

Hendrickson along with three other Mountaineers recorded over ten digs against the Rangers. Led by senior Lyria Brook with 17 digs, Jordyn Todd had 16 digs, Elizabeth Rupprecht with 13 digs, and Hanna Hendrickson earned 11 digs.
 
Elyse Fitzpatrick had the sole block for the Mountaineers in their match against the Rangers.
 
NEXT WEEK:
Next week the Mountaineers will travel to the Front Range to play Colorado Christian University on Mar. 12 and Colorado State University Pueblo on Mar. 13.
