Mountaineer men drop home finale versus Black Hills State

GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado men's basketball team fell to Black Hills State 91-70 on Monday at Paul Wright Gym.

The Mountaineers (6-10 overall, 6-9 RMAC) stayed close with the Yellow Jackets (8-5, 8-5) in the first half, down just 37-33 at the half, and took a four-point lead on BHSU early in the second half after a dunk by Elijah Davidson made it 43-39 with 16:28 remaining. 

But a 9-0 run by the Yellow Jackets capped by a dunk from Joel Scott quickly gave them a 48-43 lead and BHSU slowly increased the lead the rest of the way.

The Mountaineers, second in the RMAC in 3-point shooting, were just 8-for-29 (27.6 percent) from 3-point range and shot 41.5 percent overall from the field compared to the Yellow Jackets shooting 59.4 percent from the field - 9-for-22 (40.9 percent) from 3-point range.

Matthew Ragsdale led the Mountaineers with 21 points to go along with five rebounds. Jonathan McCloud had 15 points while Elijah Davidson had nine points and five rebounds.

Trey Whitley led Black Hills State with 11 points while Sindou Cisse had 17 points and Joel Scott finished with 15.

The Mountaineers return to action Wednesday as they take on Adams State in Alamosa.
