Ragsdale ties Western scoring record with 46 in Mountaineer rout of CSU Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. --- Western Colorado's Matthew Ragsdale tied a Mountaineer single-game record with 46 points while Avery Rembao had a career-high 31 as the duo led Western past CSU Pueblo 107-82 on Tuesday at Massari Arena.

Ragsdale tied current assistant coach Ben Beauchamp - who did it Nov. 18, 2017 in a double overtime game against Midwestern State - and George Rausch - who did it against Grand Canyon in 1965 - with his 46 points. Ragsdale is the sixth Western player to score 40-plus points in a game and it's the seventh time a Western player has reached 40 or more points (Nate Allen did it twice).

Ragsdale went 19-for-25 from the field, the second-most field goals made by a Western Colorado player in a game in program history - only shy of Rausch's 21 field goals against GCU. He went 6-for-9 from 3-point range in the contest as he scored 26 points in the first half and had another 20 points in the second half. The sophomore also had seven rebounds.
Rembao was arguably even more efficient, going 11-for-13 from the field, 3-for-5 from 3-point range and 6-for-8 from the free throw line. The sophomore had seven rebounds and five assists to go along with his career-high 31 points.

It marks the first time in Western history that Western teammates scored 40-plus and 30-plus points in the same game.

As for the game, the Mountaineers led 55-48 at the half before expanding the lead to 12 points within the first minute of the second half after a Jonathan McCloud layup at the 19-minute mark made it 61-49. The lead eventually grew to 20 points after Avery Rembao drained a 3-pointer with 4:23 remaining to make it 96-76 as the Mountaineers led by as much as 27 points in the contest.

McCloud finished with 14 points for Western - going 4-for-7 from 3-point range - while Cole Sienknecht had 11 points, seven assists and five rebounds as Ragsdale, Rembao, McCloud and Sienknecht combined for 102 of Western's 107 points. As a team, the Mountaineers shot 63.6 percent from the field (42-for-66), including going 15-for-30 from 3-point range.
The 107 points is the most scored in regulation for the Mountaineers since scoring 118 points against Dine College on Nov. 19, 2016.

Bryce Sanchious led CSU Pueblo with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

The Mountaineers and ThunderWolves face off again 7:30 p.m. Friday at Paul Wright Gym.
