GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado men's basketball team led top-ranked Colorado School of Mines 47-46 at the half - but couldn't keep pace in the second half and fell to the Orediggers 103-82 on Saturday at Paul Wright Gym.
The Mountaineers (4-8 overall, 4-7 RMAC) after going 10-for-17 in the first half from 3-point range went 2-for-9 in the second half and were outscored by Mines (12-0, 11-0) 57-35 over the final 20 minutes.
Five Mountaineers reached double figures with
Matthew Ragsdale leading the way with 20 points - going 4-for-9 from 3-point range.
Avery Rembao had 17 points, a team-high four assists and three rebounds,
Cole Sienknecht had 13 points,
Elijah Davidson had 13 points, six rebounds, two steals and a block while
Jonathan McCloud had 11 points and six rebounds.
The Mountaineers were outrebounded 35-22 - leading to Mines outscoring Western 15-4 on second-chance points.
Brendan Sullivan led Mines with 26 points - going 10-for-13 from the field, including 3-for-5 from 3-point range. Michael Glen had 22 points and seven rebounds while Kobi Betts had 19 points and Trent Dykema added 16 points. The Orediggers shot 60.3 percent from the field - including going 12-for-22 (54.5 percent) from 3-point range.
Western will look to get back on track Tuesday on the road at CSU Pueblo.
