Mountaineers travel to the 2021 RMAC Cross Country Championships

GUNNISON, Colo. --- Western Colorado cross country travels to Golden, Colo. to race in the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday.
 
Colorado School of Mines will host the championship meet at the Applewood Golf Course, as the women's 6-kilometer event is set to start at 10:40 a.m. with the men's 8-kilometer race beginning at 11:30 a.m.
 
Western Colorado Men
Three weeks ago at the Arkansas – Chili Pepper Invite, the men's team walked away with a third place finish in the stacked field. They lost to No. 1 ranked Colorado Mines and Augustana. The men's team looks strong heading into the RMAC Championships and will look to contend for the title.
 
The Mountaineers will send 10 men to race on Saturday, racing all of their top runners in the event. Traveling on the men's side will be Michael Grabowski, John Houdeshell, Riley Howard, Patrick Jirele, Will Johnson, Simon Kelati, Cade Michael, Ryan Outler, Max Sawyer and Aidan Scott.
 
Western Colorado Women
At the Arkansas – Chili Pepper Invite three weeks ago, the women's team finished ninth in the field of mostly division one teams. Only two division two teams outscored the Mountaineers as Colorado Mines finished sixth and CSU Pueblo finished seventh. The women's team will look to defend their title as RMAC Champions after winning last season.
 
Western Colorado will send 10 women to Golden on Saturday to toe the line at the RMAC Championships. Traveling on the women's side will be Allison Beasley, Dulce Carlos, Katie Doucette, MaKenna Knez, Abbey Mohan, Gretchen Slattum, Alyssa Tatum, Leah Taylor, Camille Tredoux and Haley Wood.
 
DII Rankings
Heading into the weekend, both the men and women come in ranked No. 10 in the nation in the 2021 DII XC National Coaches' Poll.
 
In the RMAC, the Western Colorado men (No. 10) rank fourth behind Colorado Mines (No. 1), Adams State (No. 3) and Colorado Christian (No. 5). The Mountaineer women (No. 10) rank fifth in the RMAC behind Adams State (No. 1), Colorado Mines (No. 4), UCCS (No. 6) and CSU Pueblo (No. 7).
 
How to Watch
The 2021 Cross Country RMAC Championships are open to the public to watch at Applewood Golf Course. There will be no charge for spectators to attend. The parking lot at the golf course will be closed to the public, so spectators will need to park on the streets in neighborhoods.
