GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado made one last push late against No. 22 Dixie State, but fell to the Trailblazers 90-82 on Friday night at Paul Wright Gym.
The Mountaineers (8-14 overall, 5-11 RMAC) trailed the Trailblazers (18-4, 13-3) 84-70 with 3:35 remaining in the game before a pair of free throws by
Monroe Porter after a flagrant foul and a
Cameron McCurry left-handed bucket in the paint made it a 10-point game with 2:21 remaining.
Porter followed with a putback after a DSU offensive foul, and after another turnover by the Trailblazers, McCurry scored again to make it 84-78 with 1:17 remaining.
But that's as close as the Mountaineers would get as DSU sank its free throws down the stretch while WCU couldn't get the key baskets it needed down the stretch.
Freshman
Matthew Ragsdale led five WCU players in double figures with 21 points, Porter had 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks,
Avery Rembao had 12 points,
Cole Sienknecht had 10 points and McCurry ad 10 points and four rebounds.
The Mountaineers return to action 7 p.m. Saturday against Westminster.
