GUNNISON, Colo. --- Western Colorado swimming and diving kept it close, but came up short in their dual against No. 20 Dixie State University as the Trailblazers clinched the victory over the Mountaineers 120-86 in Paul Wright Natatorium on Thursday.

The Mountaineers were able to walk away with their heads held high as they won four of the 13 events and had five runner up finishes.

Winning both of her event in the one-meter six-dive and one-meter 11-dive was Mountaineer
Sarah Mortenson, as she earned 151.15 points in the six-dive and an additional 227.15 points for the 11-dive.

Winning the first event of the meet for the Mountaineers was
Addison O'Donnell, as she was the first to touch the wall in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:02.96.

Odonnell was also part of the second place 400-yard freestyle relay team as they finished in a time of 3:49.23. Also on the relay team were Mountaineers
Shea Yuran,
Sydney Skiles, and
Hadley Nelson.

Skiles also went on to take second place in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:32.32.

Clinching the last first place finish for Western Colorado was
Savannah Tice in the 100-yard backstroke as she beat the competition by nearly three seconds, clocking a time of 59.68 seconds.

Tice also started the meet leading the 200-yard medley relay team to a second place finish with
Alex Johnson,
Jordyn Richey, and
Hadley Nelson as they finished in a time of 1:53.37.

Also earning runner up honors were
Jocelyn Jo in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.21) and
Arden Tesch in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:17.91).

The Mountaineers will next compete on Jan. 18, as they head to Grand Junction to take on No. 12 Colorado Mesa.
