GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. --- Western Colorado swimming and diving lost to No. 10 Colorado Mesa on the road as the Mavericks put up 193 points to the Mountaineers 97 points.
Western Colorado competed well against some of the top ranked division two athletes in the nation as they often finished in the top four in each event.
Earing the only victory of the meet for the Mountaineers was
Savannah Tice in the 100-yard backstroke as she swam a time of 57.65 seconds to clinch gold.
Tice also went on to take third place in the 200-yard backstroke after touching the wall in 2:09.77, just four seconds behind the leader.
Four other Mountaineers went on to earn third place finishes at El Pomar Natatorium.
Lauren Sanders had an impressive performance in the 1,650-yard freestyle as she clocked a time of 19:06.41 to lock in the third place position.
Also on the distance side,
Sydney Skiles earned a third place finish as she touched the wall in 5:28.65, just thirty-three hundredths of a second ahead of teammate
Arden Tesch.
Western Colorado also put two on the podium in third place in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard butterfly.
Rylee Denney clocked a time of 2:20.88 in the 200-yard butterfly as
Jocelyn Jo touched the wall in 2:34.96 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The Mountaineers will return to action next Saturday, as they will host Adams State University in Paul Wright Natatorium with events starting at noon.
