GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado volleyball team broke their two game losing streak as they swept the Griffins of Westminster College 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-19) earning their first win of the season in Paul Wright Gym on Saturday night.

The Mountaineers (7-6 overall, 3-2 RMAC) were slow to find their rhythm in the first set as they maintained a small lead throughout, to earn the victory at 25-22. The second set consisted of the Mountaineers sweeping the Griffins (2-9 overall, 0-4 RMAC) as they outscored them by ten points 25-15, with
Emilee Scates setting the pace with her fierce serving. The third set was a tight one early on, until Western Colorado went on a 9-0 run after
Jordyn Todd recorded a kill changing their momentum.

Todd lead the Mountaineers with 11 kills on the night, with
Emily Mangone (eight kills) and
Maddy Johnson (six kills) closely behind. Johnson also recorded a team high of two blocks and a service ace.
Hanna Hendrickson lead the team in assists with 26, as
Lyria Brook recorded 15 digs on the night.

The Mountaineers will be on the road next weekend as they face Chadron State on Friday and MSU-Denver on Saturday. Â Â
