HAYS, Kan. --- Western Colorado volleyball wins last two games of Tiger Classic Tournament on Saturday in Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Mountaineers started their day beating the host team of Fort Hays State 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23), then kept their winning streak alive as they defeated Newman University 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-13).

In the first game against Fort Hays, the Mountaineers beat the Tigers by an average of five points every set. Western had an explosive first two sets, then managed to hold the lead to win the third.

The team worked together spreading the work load through all three sets, both Kristen Companik and
Jordyn Todd finished with nine kills, asÂ
Maddy Johnson was right behind recording eight kills.
Brianna Hardy and
Emilee Scates made an impenetrable defensive wall with Hardy earning seven blocks and Scates with five.
Hanna Hendrickson recorded 31 sets, as
Myles Hilbert and Todd each had nine digs.

For the second game of the day and fourth of the tournament, Western lost the first set against the Newman Jets by two points. After that the Mountaineers closed out the next three sets to win the game, dominating the last set 25 to 13.

Todd led the Mountaineers in both kills with 15 and in aces with two, then finished second with 12 digs. Hendrickson recorded 26 more assists, then allowed
Hannah Pethtel to earn 15 assists helping lead the Mountaineers to victory. Hilbert led the team with 13 digs in the game.

The Mountaineers return to action on Friday as they begin conference play at Colorado State University Pueblo.
