Mountaineers win first conference game of the season

PUEBLO, Colo. --- Western Colorado volleyball wins against the ThunderWolves of CSU-Pueblo in the fifth set on Friday night. The Mountaineers start their season 1-0 in conference play after beating the ThunderWolves 3-2 (16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 16-25, 15-13).
 
The Mountaineers got off to a slow start as they lost the first set 16-25 in Massari Arena. They then won the next two sets by an average of three points. With a chance to win in the fourth set, the Mountaineers came up short sending it to the fifth set. Falling behind early in the fifth, Western rallied to win 15-13.
 
Leading the team in kills was senior Maddy Johnson as she recorded 16 kills on the night, the second and third kill leaders were freshmen Emily Mangone with 11 and Jordyn Todd with eight. Hanna Hendrickson again led the team in assists as she recorded 37 during the game, along with having 15 digs. Myles Hilbert led the team in digs with 27 on the night.
 
The team will be back on the court tomorrow night as they head to Las Vegas, New Mexico, to take on the Cowgirls of New Mexico Highlands at 6 p.m.
