GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Western women's basketball fall to the number one ranked Mavericks of Colorado Mesa University. The Mountaineers took an early lead in Brownson Arena, the Mavericks then came from behind to outscore Western in the second half to clinch the first place spot in the RMAC postseason tournament.

Despite the loss, the Mountaineers still clinch the seventh place spot in the RMAC tournament. Western will continue their season by playing number two ranked Westminster on the road next Tuesday.

In the first quarter the Mountaineers led over the Mavericks 18 to 8. They continued to outscore Colorado Mesa through the second quarter 12 to 10, giving them a twelve point lead (30 to 18) going into the half.

In the second half the Mavericks outscored the Mountaineers 42 to 9. Western fell to Colorado Mesa 39 to 60, causing the Mountaineers to fall to 12-10 in the RMAC and 16-10 overall.

Samantha Coleman and
Jadyn Kanzler led the Mountaineers offence, both with nine points on the night.
Tammarrah Gothard had six assists for Western, boosting her rank on the RMAC assist charts.

Leading the team in time on the court was
Chandler Willis who played 36 minutes. Willis had the most rebounds for the Mountaineers with 11 on the night. Â

Western's largest lead of the night was 14 points with just over two minutes left in the first half.

In the first half the Mountaineers shot a game high of 66 percent from behind the three pointer, helping them get off to their early lead. In the second half Western missed all seven attempts from behind the three.

Of the 47 field goal attempts on the night, Western could only manage to get 13 of them to fall.
