WBB | Mountaineers fall in RMAC Quarterfinals

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Western Colorado University women's basketball's historic season came to an end on Tuesday night. The Mountaineers fell in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals to Westminster College 45-59 on the road in Salt Lake City.
 
Western finished the season tied with the sixth most wins in program history at 12 and made the RMAC Tournament for just the fifth time.
 
On Tuesday, the Mountaineers entered the RMAC Tournament as the seventh seed. Western's opponent, Westminster, was seeded second.
 
A tightly contested first quarter of action saw the Griffins with a two-point edge heading into the second quarter, 9-11.
 
The Mountaineers took control of the lead in the second quarter following a pair of free throws from Payton Paro. Western led by four points at the 6:46 mark before halftime.
 
The Griffins responded with a 13-1 run to end the second quarter, taking a 27-19 lead into halftime.
 
Neither team was able to gain ground in the third quarter as each team netted 14 points.
 
Westminster pulled away in the fourth, ending the Mountaineer season.
 
Samantha Coleman led the Mountaineers with 12 points. Coleman scored two three-pointers against the Griffins on Tuesday night, finishing the season tied with Jen Knight for the seventh most three-pointers made in school history during a single season.
 
Coleman's .403 three-point shooting percentage ranks fourth best in a season for a Western player, while her .806 free-throw percentage ranks seventh best in the Western record book.
 
RMAC Defensive Player of the Year Tammarrah Gothard recorded eight points, three steals, two assists and six rebounds.
 
Gothard's 69 steals this season ranks eighth best for a Western player in a single season and her 107 assists are also eighth best.
