DENVER, Colo. – Western Colorado University Women's Basketball lose on the road to Regis University. With only a four point difference Western falls 45 to 49 to the Rangers of Regis University.
Western (10-8 RMAC, 14-8 overall) fell to eleventh ranked Regis (9-9 RMAC, 13-10 overall) in Denver on Friday night.
Going into the fourth quarter the Mountaineers lead 38 to 37. The Rangers managed to hold Western to only seven points in the fourth quarter, allowing them to come away with the victory. Having two players in the double digits for rebounding helped the Rangers walk away with the win.
Samantha Coleman lead the Mountaineers in scoring with fifteen total points, but only hit two of ten from behind the three point line. She also played more than any player on the court with thirty-nine minutes of playing time, giving her only one minute of rest all night.
The second leading scorer for Western was
Jadyn Kanzler, also hitting double digits with thirteen points. Kanzler had the best field goal percentage for the Mountaineers, shooting 71.4 percent (5-7) from inside the three pointer.
Despite outscoring the Rangers in the paint (24-22) Western couldn't out score Regis on three pointers or field goals.
The Rangers stole the ball nine times and scored fourteen points off of those possessions. The Mountaineers only had six steals, with six points resulting from those steals.
Tammarrah Gothard led the Mountaineers in rebounding with eight rebounds, having the third most rebounds in the game.
The only non-starter to score for Western was
Mikaela Parker with four points. Where the Rangers had sixteen points from non-starters.
Western needs a win tomorrow night against Colorado Christian University (at 5:00 p.m.) in order to stay in good playoff contention. The Mountaineers currently sit in seventh place, top eight move onto playoffs, but are only one game behind fifth (MSU) and sixth (UCCS) place.
