LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Western Colorado University women's basketball earned a very significant 61-54 win over Colorado Christian University on Saturday night on the road. The win helps keep the Mountaineers in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.

Western (15-8, 11-8 RMAC) now sits alone, seventh in the conference standings. The top eight RMAC teams make the conference tournament.

The Mountaineers entered Saturday's game tied with CCU (12-13, 10-9 RMAC) in the RMAC standings.

Western fell behind to the Cougars in the first quarter and trailed by two points heading into the second quarter.

That CCU lead was soon eliminated and the Mountaineers took a 27-23 lead into halftime.

Western's
Chandler Willis scored 13 of her game leading 25 points in the first half to pace the Mountaineers. Willis made 5-of-8 three point attempts against her former teammates, while also grabbing seven rebounds.

The Mountaineers put seven more points between themselves and CCU in the third quarter to lead 40-33 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final 10 minutes, both offenses opened and each scored 21 points.

Tammarrah Gothard also reached double figures in scoring. Gothard scored 17 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Gothard also recorded a game high four assists.

The Mountaineers will return home for the final home games of the season next weekend. Western hosts Adams State University on Friday night and Fort Lewis College on Saturday in Paul Wright Gym.
