GOLDEN, Colo. --- Western Colorado swimming and diving went to the Front Range on Saturday to compete at the CSM Triangular swimming and diving meet. The Mountaineers earned six first place finishes as they beat CSU-Pueblo 193 to 101, but lost to Colorado School of Mines 167 to 113.
This was the Mountaineers second time going up against CSU-Pueblo this season as they have now won both meetings. Saturday was the first time Western Colorado faces CSM this season as the Orediggers were ranked No. 29 in the nation prior to Saturdays meet.Â
The Mountaineers earned their first victory of the meet in the third event, the 200 yard freestyle, as Western's
Arden Tesch swan herself to a first place finish in 1:59.27. Just over a second ahead of the second place finisher.Â
Directly following the 200 yard freestyle was the 100 yard backstroke, leading the Mountaineers along with the field was
Savannah Tice as she was the first to touch the wall being the only swimmer to break the one minute mark as she swam a time of 59.09 to clinch the victory.
As the only diver in the competition for the Mountaineers, school record holder
Sarah Mortenson again earned the victory in both the 1 meter 11 dive and 3 meter 6 dive. Recording a score of 340.41 in the 1 meter and 185.77 in the 3 meter dives.
Winning by nearly two seconds,
Jordyn Richey was the first to touch the wall in the 200 yard breaststroke. Richey finished in a time of 2:33.91 as second place swam 2:35.58.
Winning by less than a second in the 400 yard IM,
Arden Tesch was the last Mountaineer to clinch a first place finish on Saturday, swimming in the 15th event of the day. Tesch swam 4:47.52 to take the first place position, ahead of second who finished closely behind in 4:48.39.Â
The Mountaineers will now take a short break before returning to action on November 20 as they head to Colorado Mesa to swim in the A3 Invite for the four day meet.Â
