Volleyball faces tough loss to Dixie State on the road

ST. GEORGE, Utah --- Western Colorado volleyball faces a tough loss to the Trailblazers of Dixie State University. The Mountaineers played a great third set giving them their only win of the night, Western Colorado falls 3-1 (25-15, 25-9, 17-25, 25-11) to the Trailblazers.
 
In the third set, the lead went back and forth until Lyria Brook came up to serve with the score tied 6-6. Brook served six unanswered points with three service aces, along with kills coming from Jordyn Todd and Emily Mangone. The rest of the set went point for point as the Trailbalzers (14-6 overall, 7-3 RMAC) were unable to catch the Mountaineers (8-12 overall, 4-8 RMAC).
 
The Mountaineers earned an early point in set one of the match, but it went downhill from there as the Trailblazers went on an 8-0 run to eventually close out the set 25-15.
 
Western Colorado had a horrific start to the second set as they let the Trailbalzers go on a 13-2 run to start the set. With the score 19-9 the Trailblazers had another impressive 6-0 rally to close out the second set.
 
In the fourth and final set the Mountaineers struggled to hit double digits despite earing the first three points of the set. The Trailblazers then earned 11 straight, ultimately locking down the victory as they won 25-11.
 
The Mountaineers really honed in their serving as they recorded 11 aces on the night with only four service errors. Myles Hilbert had a team high with four service aces over the four set match. Brook recorded three on the night with Hanna Hendrickson recording two, as Todd and Elizabeth Rupprecht each earned one.
 
Western Colorado will be back on the court Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they head to Salt Lake City to take on Westminster College.
