GUNNISON, Colo. --- Western Colorado swimming and diving is set to host Colorado Mesa University on Thursday for the Mountaineers home opener, then take to the road on Saturday to dual CSU-Pueblo. The home meet is scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. in Paul Wright Natatorium.
 
After coming off of their season opener last weekend the Mountaineers are ready to go up against the Mavericks at home, then the Thunderwolves on Saturday. Western Colorado competed at the CSU-Pueblo 4-Way Dual last Saturday as they won the meet over Adams State, CSU-Pueblo, and Colorado College, along with setting two pool records in the process.
 
Winning the 100 yard backstroke last weekend and setting a pool record in the process was Mountaineer Savannah Tice as she clocked a time of fifty-eight point nine-three seconds. Also setting a pool record in Pueblo, was Western Colorado's Arden Tesch in the 500 yard freestyle. Tesch won the event in a time of 5:21.51, seven seconds ahead of second.
 
The last time the Mountaineers dueled Colorado Mesa, the Mavericks won 192-67 in Grand Junction. Coming into the meet the Mavericks rank 10th in the nation in the CSCAA TYR Top 25 Dual Meet Poll. Colorado Mesa has had lots of success over the years in Gunnison as they hold 10 of the 21 pool records in Paul Wright Natatorium.
 
Last season the Mountaineers dueled against CSU-Pueblo at home, bringing home the victory and outscoring the Thurnderwolves 134-84. Western Colorado also out swam CSU-Pueblo last weekend at the 4-Way Dual as they outscored them 141-136.
