GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University Women's Basketball had their four-game win streak come to an end Friday night. The Mountaineers fell to Black Hills State University 48-59 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup.

Western (7-3, 3-3 RMAC) got out to a slow start against BHSU (9-1, 5-1 RMAC) and was unable to complete the comeback.

The Mountaineers and Yellow Jackets each scored 41 points following the first quarter of play. However, BHSU outscored Western 18-7 in the first quarter, which would prove to be the difference.

Western was able to chip away at the BHSU lead and trailed by just four points, 30-26, at the 7:15 mark of the third quarter. It was the closest the Mountaineers would get for the rest of the game.

Once again,
Samantha Coleman led the Mountaineers in scoring. Coleman notched 14 points for her third straight game scoring in double digits.

Tammarrah Gothard paced Western in assists, steals and rebounds. The senior point guard recorded four assists, four steals and eight rebounds.

The Mountaineers are now tied for sixth in the conference standings with a chance to improve their place Saturday night when they host South Dakota School of Mines & Technology at 5 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
