Gunnison Colo. – Western Colorado University women's basketball falls to the number two ranked RMAC Griffins of Westminster College, ending their five-game win streak. The Griffins outscored the Mountaineers 77 to 66.Â

Western still ranks third in the RMAC with a 12-4 overall record and 8-4 in the conference.

After falling behind early, the Mountaineers continued fighting to catch up. Western ended the first half down by 15. They then made a valiant effort in the third quarter outscoring the Griffins by 6. Sadly, the Mountaineers fell just short in their comeback in the fourth quarter.

Despite being behind the whole game, Western never let off the reins and continued to pressure the Griffins until the final buzzer.

Samantha Coleman finished the night with ten points, extending her double-digit scoring streak to nine games.

The leading scorer for the Mountaineers was senior
Chandler Willis, with 16 total points shooting 50 percent from the three pointers and hitting five of nine field goals. Willis also lead the team in rebounding, with five rebounds. Â

Even with the team hitting 81 percent from the free throw line, Western couldn't manage to score enough from the field.Â

As a team, Western out stole the Griffins 8-5.Â

Tomorrow night the Mountaineer women will be looking to redeem themselves as they take on the Trailblazers of Dixie State University at 5:00pm in Paul Wright Gym.
