GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University came out swinging versus Regis University. In the second match of the weekend, the Mountaineers squared-off with the 24
th-ranked Rangers, but after a close first set could not come away with the win. Regis took the match in three sets 25-21, 25-9, 25-12.

In the first set, Western (1-16, 0-9 RMAC) played strong against Regis (11-7, 7-2 RMAC). On the set, the Mountaineers out hit the Rangers, swinging at a rate of .233 for the set. In the process, Western recorded 14 kills to Regis' 15.Â

After Regis established a three point buffer early in the set, Western narrowed the gap throughout the middle. Late in the set, Western would tie Regis twice at 20-20 and 21-21. Eventually the Mountaineers fell 25-21 in the first.Â

In both the second and third, an overwhelming Regis offensive attack would get the best of the Mountaineers. Regis took the second set 25-9 before closing out the match with a 25-12 win.Â

On the day, Western's
Emilee Scates played one of her stronger matches of the season. Four the fourth time this season, Scates notched double-digit kills, leading the Mountaineers with 10. Only one other player in the match amassed more kills than Scates.Â

While terminating for Western, Scates hit at a season's best .500 for the match.Â

Chelsea Bostwick recorded eight kills for Western. Her second best effort of her career for the Mountianeers.Â

Hannah Hendrickson distributed well for Western with 21 assists on the day.Â

After a four game homestand, Western hits the road to South Dakota next weekend for matches against Black Hills State University and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.Â
