SPEARFISH, S.D. – Western Colorado University Volleyball's 
Kirsten Companik led all players on Friday with 12 kills. Despite the effort, the Mountaineers fell short as Black Hills State University took the match 3-0 (22-25, 22-25, 20-25).
 
Western (1-17, 0-10 RMAC) was in each set until the very end against BHSU (7-10, 4-6 RMAC). The Mountaineers trailed by one point, 18-19 in the first set, led 21-20 in the second, and were tied 20-20 in the third.
 
The Mountaineers hit in the positive during each set on Friday evening. For the match, Western converted 35 kills compared to 22 hitting errors (10.2 percent).
 
Leading the offensive attack was Companik with her match-high 12 kills. Companik also added one solo block and one block assist to lead the match with 13.5 points.
 
Setter 
Hanna Hendrickson recorded 29 assists, which tied a match high.
 
Western continues the season on Saturday in South Dakota against the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology at 1 p.m. from Rapid City.
