GUNNISON, Colo. - College football returns to Gunnison, Colorado Saturday afternoon. Western State Colorado University hosts 19th-ranked Colorado Mesa University at 1 p.m. in Mountaineer Bowl for Western's home opener.

The start to the season has been highlighted by the play of the Mountaineer defense. Western linebackers Desmond Marfizo and Lane Farris are tied for the conference lead in total tackles at 25. Lineman Mark Zavala leads the team in tackles for loss at 4.0, which also ranks tied for second best in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
