MBB | Mountaineers unable to upend DU

DENVER – Western Colorado University Men's Basketball played their third game in three days on Sunday at the University of Denver. Western was unable to defeat their second Division I opponent of the season, falling in the exhibition game 93-69.

After falling behind by 19 points in the first half, Western (3-7, 0-2 RMAC) pulled within eight points at the break behind Quincy Harding's and Cole Sienknecht's sharp shooting.

Harding scored 16 points in the final 8:39 of the first half, while Sienknecht notched nine points over that same time.

The Mountaineers trailed DU by just four points with 2:44 left to play in the first half, following a Sienknecht three-pointer.

Western was shooting 55.6 percent from beyond the arc in the first half, making 10-of-18.

The Pioneers were able to pull away in the second half, but there were plenty of positives for the Mountaineers against this Division I opponent.

Sienknecht led Western in scoring with 22 points off the bench, while also grabbing five rebounds.

Harding, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's leading scorer added 20 points for the Mountaineers, making 4-of-7 three-point field goals.

Jaire Roberts also made it into double figures, scoring 10 points. Teammate Jackson Ehrlin recorded a team-high eight rebounds.

Western resumes conference play next Saturday on the road at Chadron State College.
